Amy and Steve LeSatz:

A Biography

Background:

Amy and Steve live Eaton, Colorado.  The past 20 plus years have been spent raising kids, horses, and cattle.  Amy grew-up in a large family, ranching and riding.  She credits her Dad with instilling in her a deep love and respect for the horse.  Steve was raised in town, getting started in ranching and horses in his late teens.  Both were introduced to Ray Hunt at his clinic over 20 plus years ago.  Seeing what Ray offered his horses sparked a hunger to find those pieces missing in their own horsemanship.  That hunger led them to ride with many outstanding horsemen, furthering their own education of the horse, a practice that continues today.

Philosophy

Horsemanship is about awareness of the horse.  We have the responsibility to increase our awareness of the horse’s sense of self preservation, sensitivity to surroundings, thought processes, and responses. Understanding how a horse thinks, feels, and reacts help us to become more aware of how to present things to him. Presentation with feel, timing and balance allows the horse to learn in a way that makes sense to him.  As our awareness increases, how the horse learns starts to make sense, and we become more accurate and consistent in our presentation. We gain our horses respect by being a reliable constant in their lives and we create a relationship based on mutual understanding. The horse has an incredible ability to adapt and survive, remember and forgive. Gaining our horses trust and respect allows us to direct and support our horse through the areas where they are unsure. Our goal is to have the horse’s need to protect himself replaced by a sense of security when he’s with us.

Why Ride With Us

Horses are not just a vocation for us; they are a passion.  We have learned the most from horsemen that focused the attention on the horse, allowing the horse to be our teachers.  Amy and Steve are one of the few husband and wife teams teaching a practical style of horsemanship that takes you beyond the basics.  Because of their different backgrounds, they can relate to people in different ways. Amy and Steve bring different perspectives to horse/rider situations, helping folks achieve a solid partnership.  We offer the fundamental tools needed to build a solid foundation between horse and rider and the tools needed to achieve personal goals.   Our goal is to help riders focus their attention on the horse and form a partnership through respect and understanding. We want riders to have a horse they can enjoy in any job or activity.

What To Expect When You Ride With Us

  • Expect to answer lots of questions from us about your goals with your horse.  We work with people and their horses both.  We act as the horse’s lawyer by trying to explain what we see from what we believe to be the horse’s perspective, and we also try to give you tools to use based on your experiences and comfort levels.

  • Expect to ask lots of “WHY” questions.  Because horses are living, breathing, thinking, feeling animals, we humans need to understand why we are doing what we are doing.  What works this time with the horse, may not work the next time.  We are always adjusting to fit each situation.

  • Come prepared to THINK because our horses are thinking all the time.  If we’re not thinking and aware, we will get behind.

  • Expect to have FUN. Working with your horse should be enjoyable. So let’s whistle, grin and RIDE!
