Cow Working
Bridle Bit Cow Working Clinics offer participants the opportunity to put horsemanship into action. We try to replicate the kind of cattle work done on real working ranches. The emphasis is on horse and rider teamwork, developing a horse that truly wants to work a cow and on using low-stress livestock handling techniques that pay off on the ranch and in the show ring. The Cow Working Clinic is a great class for all levels of horses and riders. We especially enjoy helping those people and horses that are new to working cattle. Riders learn about position, timing, pressure points and how to utilize their horsemanship skills to track, sort and “cut” cattle. These clinics are really fun!
Clinics limited to 6 riders.
Clinics may be Cow Working 1 or Cow Working 2 depending on horses, riders, and hosts.

Cow working classes are for any rider wishing to start their horse on cattle, or to further advance a horse already working cattle. Riders learn about how to read cattle. They learn position, timing and how to utilize their horsemanship skills to track, sort and cut cattle. The emphasis is on horse and rider teamwork. We are developing a horse that truly wants to work a cow. We use low-stress livestock handling techniques that pay off on the ranch and in the show ring. While these clinics are appropriate for all skill levels, we have found that attending one of our horsemanship clinics or a private lesson helps in your preparation for this step up to working cattle.

Fall is that special time of the year when we “wean” the calves from the cows. It’s one of those times in a ranch production cycle where we measure how we’re doing. We’ve calved, branded and vaccinated, checked the herd health and kept them on good grass, now it’s time to give mom a break by separating the calf from her. Our job will be to gather the pairs on our Ft. Laramie summer pasture and move them to a corral system where we’ll sort the calves from the cows. The calves will be trailered to our headquarters and watched for any problems. We do a “ranch to table beef” program so all our cattle work is done with “low stress cattle handling”. We will cover topics relating to horses on cattle and the things we focus on when weaning calves. Limited to two people per session. Meals, a room in our home, and a place for your horse are included. Please contact Amy to register for these awesome experiences. Amy’s Email.
